Job description

Our client are committed to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental practices within the construction and demolition industry. We are seeking a dedicated Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Officer to join our team and play a key role in ensuring our projects adhere to safety regulations and environmental standards.

Position Overview: As an HSE Officer, you will liaise with management and clients on health, safety, and environmental matters, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with legislation. Your expertise will help us maintain a safe working environment and support our commitment to health and safety excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with management and clients regarding health, safety, and environmental matters.
  • Review safety and environmental hazards and perform risk assessments.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers/Site Supervisors to develop site documentation (e.g., Safe Work Method Statements).
  • Supervise safety site personnel and visitors.
  • Conduct internal audits and monitor compliance with legislation.
  • Update and maintain External Resources and Hazard and Risk Registers.
  • Ensure that risks and controls are updated in line with new requirements.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessing.
  • Certificate IV in OHS.
  • Senior First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Construction Industry Card (Blue/White Card).
  • Experience with accident investigation and auditing.
  • Rehabilitation and Return to Work Certificate.
  • We encourage junior candidates, including recent graduates, who are keen to gain on-site training in health and safety.

Required Capabilities:

  • Strong knowledge of the Workplace Health & Safety Act and Environmental Protection Act.
  • Understanding of project site-specific Safety and Environmental Plans.
  • Ability to write Safe Work Method Statements to mitigate hazards.
  • Experience managing the reporting of incidents, accidents, and near misses.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with various stakeholders.
  • Highly developed written communication skills for report preparation.

Ongoing Training:

  • Commitment to ongoing training in new Acts, Regulations, and safety/environmental matters.
  • Regular updates to Workplace Health and Safety Officer qualifications as required.

Duties - Safety and Environmental:

  • Provide necessary documentation to clients, including risk assessments and safety plans.
  • Conduct safety inspections to monitor compliance and ensure safe work practices.
  • Implement safety initiatives and conduct audits.
  • Train site employees and subcontractors in job safety documentation.
  • Maintain first aid kits and emergency equipment.
  • Ensure safety documentation reflects changes to regulations and is properly implemented.
  • Monitor the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and provide training as needed.
  • Report and investigate incidents and propose corrective actions.

Duties - Rehabilitation:

  • Liaise with work supervisors to assist injured workers.
  • Maintain regular contact with injured workers to support their rehabilitation.
